Vegas (Before the Morning)
at night
we lie awake
thirteen mattresses on the floor
thirteen girls in the room
Olivia doesn’t quite fit, but we squeeze her in anyway
remember how the coffee made us shake
trading our sodas and bottled frappuccinos
jelly beans and pop-tarts
Liana spills the goldfish and we laugh
memories, they came and went
these three weeks are so short
and so long
I can’t remember anything before Eva and Sammi and Michelle
I don’t want to remember anything before Nicole and Mary and Mythili
in light of all the time we spent
toes buried in the grass, face turned to the sun
running and laughing and yelling
ice cream cones and afternoons playing cards on the quad
my home tonight
for one more long night
tomorrow camp ends
tomorrow we leave for home
tomorrow is the last time we will see each other
tonight we will make sure
we never forget each other
my friends are a different breed
my friends are everything
Just something I wrote thinking about summer camp. Italicized lyrics are from Vegas by All Time Low.
